Week 1.

During the first week of this On-Line English Course you will be given a complete SLP Level 3 exam so as to determine where we're starting from, both individually and as a group.

You will be required to do the oral and written comprehension exams and send us the results indicating the exact number of correct answers out of 40/30 questions respectively. You will also be required to submit your written assignment to us no later than Thursday of the first week.

The telephone interview sessions of the first week will focus on SLP interviews or Oral Proficiency Interview (OPIs), it's format and purpose.

LISTENING

In this section you will be given a series of recorded texts presented in MP3 format which you can download to your computer. You will have to listen to each exerpt and answer from a multiple choice answer sheet.

READING

In this section you will be provided a Listening Comprehension Test. It is a multiple choice type test and you will be given 30 short texts to which you will have to select the correct answers.

SPEAKINGSPEAKING

In preparation of the OralProficiency Interview we proceed with the opening part of the interview. As a warm up the interviewer may ask you about your FORTE.

  • Family (maried/single? kids? brothers/sisters? parents? where do you live? etc.)
  •  Occupation (Where do you work? what do you do? routines?,etc.)
  • Recreation ((hobbies, passtimes, sports,?)
  • Travel (destinations, preferences, vacations,etc.)
  • Education (junior school, secondary school, university, third level studies, etc.)

You may be asked about any one of these topics or indeed a mix of any and/or all of them.

This part of the OPI lasts about five or six minutes and enables the interviewer to learn something about you and so have something to talk about. On the other hand, it is supposed to be a warm up session for you in which you should be able to demonstrate that you can manage English comfortably at Level 2.

The interviewer may continue to ask question and elicit answers Level 3 type language.

WRITING

In this section you will have to submit a written assignment of some 400 words on one of the two subjects proposed. Although the EMID does not permit the use of autocorrectors, in this On-Line Course we reccomend its use. You will be responsible for your own corrections.

Your assignments will be submitted to cosecid@ea.mde.es indicating in subject: your name_surname_title.

You may be required to express your opinions, recommendations, predictions, etc.
